PROTECTED AREA CATEGORIES IN SAUDI ARABIA

For management purposes, most protected areas in the Kingdom are subdivided into zones of permissible use, and this is easily accommodated by allocating a different reserve classification to each zone.

As such, most of the Kingdom’s protected area categories made by the SWA consist of a group of different IUCN protected area categories.

Thus, the categories found below are mostly derived from the SWA. The added ones are created to designate protected areas on different scales (national, regional, and provincial) to accommodate indigenous people with their "own" reserves, as not all reserves are on the scale of a nation.
